Class Description
Discover the timeless artistry of Platinum Palladium printing in this introductory class designed for photographers of all levels. Throughout the class, students will delve into the fundamentals of this historic printing process, exploring its unique characteristics and aesthetic qualities.
During the Friday evening reception, participants will have the chance to engage with fellow students and the instructor with a class introduction, setting the stage for an immersive learning experience. On Saturday, students will embark on the main course, where they will learn step-by-step techniques for creating stunning prints using the Platinum Palladium process.
From digital negatives to coating and exposing paper, students will learn about every stage of the printing process. Through demonstrations and personalized guidance, participants will develop the skills and confidence to produce their own exquisite prints.
As a highlight of the course, each student will have the opportunity to create a print from one of their own images, putting their newfound knowledge into practice under the guidance of their experienced instructor.
Whether you're a seasoned photographer looking to expand your repertoire or a newcomer to alternative printing processes, this course offers a unique opportunity to explore the beauty and versatility of Platinum Palladium printing. Join us and unlock the potential of this captivating medium. This course does not cover the intricacies of creating digital negatives. The focus remains on mastering the essential skills required to produce stunning Platinum Palladium prints.
Note: Enrollment will be limited to a maximum of six participants. Students are asked to submit one image file that will be prepared as a digital negative, two weeks in advance of the class.
Paul Cunningham is an Oregon-based photographer and owner of The Cunningham Press. Paul has been engaged in Platinum Palladium printing for over ten years and his prints are sold around the world.
This workshop takes place on the evening of Friday October 18, and all day Saturday October 19. The location is LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, Oregon.
